Lymphoma is a type of cancer that originates in the immune system’s infection-fighting cells. These cells are found in parts of the body such as the spleen, bone marrow, lymph nodes, and thymus. When one suffers from lymphoma, white blood cells known as lymphocytes shift in their form and grow uncontrollably. Here, we will cover 4 different types of lymphoma.

Types of Lymphoma
Lymphoma can be divided into two major types: Hodgkin’s lymphoma and Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL). Dr. Thomas Hodgkin, a renowned pathologist in the 1800s, classified certain cells as cancerous and named them Reed-Sternberg (RS) cells. If an individual’s body has these cells, they are suffering from Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma originates in either the T- or B-cells present in the immune system. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is further divided into several other types, some of which include

• B-cell Lymphoma
  One of the most aggressive kinds of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). It grows at a rapid pace and originates from abnormal B cells present in the blood. It is a very serious disease and if left unattended, it can result in death. Which stage of DLBCL you are in, will help in determining the kind of prognosis you will have to undergo.

• T-cell Lymphoma
  While not as common as B-cell lymphoma, T-cell lymphoma is as fatal. Out of all the Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cases, T-cell lymphoma is found in 15 percent of them. There are different types of lymphoma, which come under T-cell lymphoma. The two main types are mycosis fungoides and sézary syndrome. When one suffers from mycosis fungoides, the body exhibits the kind of symptoms, which are seen during skin conditions like psoriasis, dermatitis, and eczema. Sezary syndrome happens when you reach a higher stage of mycosis fungoides. It affects the blood adversely and spreads into the internal organs and lymph nodes.

• Burkitt’s Lymphoma
  It is a rare but aggressive kind of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. People, who suffer from low immunity, are more susceptible to it. Many people in sub-Saharan Africa have found to be suffering from this disease but it can affect anybody residing in any part of the world. The most common symptoms of Burkitt’s lymphoma are abdominal swelling, enlarged thyroid, swollen tonsils, night sweats, intestinal obstruction, and distorted facial bones.

• Follicular Lymphoma
  Every one in five individuals has been reported to suffer from follicular lymphoma in the country. This type of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma originates in the white blood cells. It is most commonly found in older people. The average age of people who suffer from this condition is 60. It grows slowly, so it takes a while to be diagnosed. Its symptoms include enlarged lymph nodes in the underarms, stomach, and other body parts; shortness of breath; fatigue; fever; weight loss; and infections.
