7 Home Remedies to Remove Dogs Fleas and Ticks

Having a dog as a pet also means that you’ve also adopted the fleas and ticks on him/her. These annoying blood-sucking parasites are pretty much everywhere and can not only irritate your dog but can turn life-threatening if left unhindered. No need to worry, here are some home remedies to get rid of fleas and ticks in dogs.

Use Alcohol
One of the ways to get rid of ticks and fleas is by making them swim in alcohol. This does not mean that your dog needs to swim in alcohol but rather that you need to pull out the fleas and ticks and drown them in a cup filled with alcohol. Do not ever pour alcohol on your pet as this could be dangerous.

Bathe Dogs in the Tub
While this method is not the best home remedy to get rid of ticks in dogs, it works wonders for fleas. Fleas do not hold onto the hair of your pet which means that a good wash will get rid of those squirmy parasites. Use a lathering shampoo for the wash and get a soft-bristled brush for some in-depth cleaning.

Check Them After an Outing
Don’t let your pet just get on its bed or the furniture as soon as they step into the house. Why? Well, ticks and fleas will instantly settle on your furniture. Instead, try doing a little check to see if your dog has caught some of these annoying pests and remove them instantly.

Clean Thoroughly
Even if you check your pet when they step back indoors, there is a possibility that you may have missed one or two. So, how do we tackle this problem? Cleaning, disinfecting, and vacuuming your pet’s spaces and even the rest of your home is essential.

Make a Repellant Collar
Essential oils can be used as one of the home remedies to get rid of ticks and fleas but do not ever use it directly on your dog’s skin. But, you can make a collar that is soaked in essential oils to keep the ticks and fleas away.

Grooming Is a Must
If your dog is groomed well and their fur is not too long, you’ll be able to see the ticks and fleas and promptly remove them. Too much fur allows the fleas and ticks to go unnoticed and lets them multiply until it becomes life-threatening.

Get a Removal Comb

Usually, using your hand or a pair of tweezers can be painful for the animals and can cause the dog to bleed unless it’s done properly. If you have a tick and flea removal comb, the process will be a whole lot easier and a whole less painful. You can comb the fur of your dog every day and keep them clean.
