Natural Treatments for Acne

Natural Treatments for Acne

Acne is a skin condition that can be embarrassing and frustrating for many people. The condition is caused by P.acnes bacteria which most commonly affect the face but can also appear on the back, chest, and arms. If you’ve tried prescriptions or over-the-counter treatments for acne with no luck, there are some home remedies for acne you can try to help you get a glowing, blemish-free complexion:

1. Tea tree oil and witch hazel
Both witch hazel and tea tree oil help to improve acne. Witch hazel is a natural toner you can apply to the skin after cleansing and tea tree oil removes bacteria and protects your skin from new bacterial buildup. While you can use these natural ingredients separately, they work well together as a home remedy. Place a few drops of tea tree oil in a bottle of witch hazel so you can use both ingredients together to clear up acne and prevent new breakouts from forming and improve your overall skin tone.

2. Egg white mask
If you suffer from blackheads and large pores, an egg white mask can help with these skin issues. Egg whites contain sulfur which is an antimicrobial agent that can bring blackheads to the surface so you can remove them from your face. The egg whites also tighten the skin to keep impurities from getting into your pores and causing more breakouts. To make the mask, whisk egg whites in a bowl and place the egg whites on your face for 15 minutes or until it dries completely. You can also add honey or tea tree oil to the mask to help rid the skin of acne-causing bacteria.

3. Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar can be used as a mask or toner to provide beneficial bacteria for the skin while removing toxins. After cleaning your face, place some apple cider vinegar on a cotton ball and gently rub it across your face. You can leave the toner on your face until you cleanse your skin again. If you want to use the vinegar as a mask, mix the apple cider vinegar with bentonite clay and/or honey and place it on your face until the mask dries completely. You may feel a slight tingle on your face, which is usually a sign that the solution is working. Rinse the mask with cool water and apply witch hazel to soothe the skin.

4. Probiotics
If you’ve tried topical solutions for acne and don’t see an improvement in your complexion, you may want to try internal remedies. Taking a probiotic supplement daily can aid in digestion and rid your body of unclean substances that can cause or worsen acne. You can also take digestive enzymes with probiotics to treat and prevent conditions like leaky gut. Leaky gut exacerbates the digestive system and causes impurities to enter the bloodstream and cause more breakouts. Taking these supplements daily, along with the other natural remedies listed above can help you get the clear skin you’ve always wanted.
